Local Information on 1770 / Agnes Water

The twin towns of 1770 and Agnes Water are located on the central Queensland coast and boast beautiful scenery, spectacular diving and a peaceful way of life. Nestled between Eurimbula and Deepwater national parks, the Town of 1770 is known as the birthplace of Queensland after Leuitenant James Cook made his second landing on the Australian continent from the Endeavour on May 24,1770.

The magnificent natural features of the area include Round Hill Headland with the Coral Sea on one side and Bustard Bay on the other while a stunning inlet flows below. Beautiful beaches adorn the region including the main township of Agnes Water with the northern-most surf beach on the east coast of Australia.

The wildlife and vegetation has been well preserved and the small population cater for their tourist visitors by offering a myriad of recreational activites which make use of the surrounding natural beauty including scuba diving, surfing, fishing charters, scenic tours, ocean cruises and joy flights. This picturesque spot has been a well kept secret for a long time but now that the word is out, it is fast becoming one of the must see spots on the Queensland tourist trail.

The towns contain a large number of holiday accommodation options to suit every budget. There are two supermarkets, a selection of restaurants, a number of specialty shops as well as a post office, petrol station and small marina.
